Kids Korps Volunteers Donate More Thank 300 Prom Dress for Teen With Cancer The Friends of Scott 3rd Annual Unforgettable Prom took place on Friday, April 24th.–it was a Night of a Thousand Stars–a night when San Diego’s very
own stars shined! For a few precious hours, kids who have been through so much in their young lives were given a chance to celebrate. On this one night, everything about their illness simply disappeared.
Even before this special night began, there was much anticipation to enjoy. The girls were excited about getting their hair and make up done and choosing the perfect dress at the impromptu Deanne’s Boutique. The boys selected their favorite tuxedo provided by Friar Tux Shop. Arriving by limo and walking the red carpet, the teens were cheered by parents, family, friends, and well-wishers just like movie stars, making all the waiting worth it!
Friends of Scott board members and volunteers had the privilege of watchingeveryone enjoy the evening–dancing, eating, and laughing–making lasting memories. Watching the kids on such a memorable night was also an unforgettable experience for doctors, nurses, and other Children’s Hospital staff that care for these kids daily.
Prom invitations went out to teens with cancer and cancer survivors that missed their own proms when they were sick. Shortly into the evening, it was fun to see a touching moment, when a group of boys that hadn’t seen each other in some time, embraced in a big group hug – they were so happy to see one another doing well!
A special thank you goes to all the wonderful Kids Korps volunteers who donated more than 300 beautiful prom dresses for these teen girls with cancer. Thank you to Deanne Seiler for her endless trips to the Kids Korps office to collect the dresses over a 4 month period as they arrived. Everything came together to make this a very special night.
