The SuperMoms360.com chapter of Kids Korps USA gathered Thursday, December 15 to spread holiday cheer to local senior citizens at the Sunshine Care Assisted-Living Homes in Poway. The children had the opportunity to greet each of the 30 residents with a handshake, high five or a hug and the seniors responded with warm smiles. The chapter members and their guests, ranging in ages from 3 – 11, sang three Christmas carols — Jingle Bells, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and We Wish You a Merry Christmas. Following the serenade, the children handed out cookies and hot chocolate to each of the residents and snuck a few for themselves as well.

“I am so impressed with the efforts of the SuperMom360.com families. The young people that came to perform and visit at Sunshine Care brought with them music, laughter, cookies and a playful energy — all the secrets of youth. It was heartfelt. Their innocence and sweet faces brought so much joy to our residents,” said Lisa Lipsey, Director of Community & Intergenerational Relations at Sunshine Care Assisted Living Homes. The residents and children alike enjoyed the intergenerational experience.

“I loved singing to the Grandmas and Grandpas because they were the best audience and it made them smile!” said Dylan Stumm, 7, SuperMoms360.com chapter member.

SuperMoms360.com chapter members and guests in attendance were: Ava Cafagna, 3; Reese Cafagna, 6; Ryan Doyle, 7; Emma Gillespie, 7; Maggie Gillespie, 5; Addison Klepsch, 6; Anthony Luxton, 7; Anna Mook 9; Brian Mook, 7; Emily Nugent, 4; Jenna Nugent, 6; Justin Settles, 8; Kristal Settles, 11; Dylan Stumm, 7; and Morgan Stumm, 8.

For the Kick-off event this year, over 120 volunteers from Sage Canyon made 90 pet gifts— decorating pet bowls, filling them with toys and food, and wrapping them up in pretty packages. These were delivered to The Rancho Coastal Humane Society and San Diego Humane Society, where they will be given out to new owners when pets are adopted as well as being used for incoming pets.

Sage recently had an amazing visit to Paws’itive Team Training, where kids were able to meet and handle therapy dogs for the disabled. Paws’itive Teams trains service dogs to assist mobility-limited persons in achieving greater independence, and through educational presentations and animal assisted therapy, enhances the lives of persons living in San Diego County.

The Sage Chapter is currently gearing up for the Holidays, making and distributing Thanksgiving baskets for low-income families in North County, participating in Fun Runs, holiday visits and their signature school-wide, “Giving Tree” event.

Our calendar for the spring is almost full, too! With lots of new projects and so many areas of interest, The Sage Kids Korps Chapter is busy trying to meet the needs of the community through hands-on projects in areas of animal care, environment, seniors, homeless, military and much, much more! Giving back has never been so much fun and so rewarding for our families!

Our Pacific Rim Elementary Chapter in Carlsbad had a great beginning to the year with nearly 120 members joining our chapter! To keep all these members busy, we offered several projects that kids could sign-up for at the membership drive, such as weeding on the school campus, a beach cleanup, selling papers for Kids News Day, and trail maintenance at the Batiquitos Lagoon. Members from our chapter also serve the homeless at the Bread of Life Shelter on a monthly basis, so they know they can count on our chapter’s amazing members to regularly provide and serve a hot meal. In addition, each month we prepare and bring 100 sack lunches for the homeless individuals so they have food for the next day. In December, our 5th grade Youth Board planned a Christmas party for the residents of the Women’s Resource Center. Kids Korps members of all ages then facilitated games and cookie decorating, making a memorable afternoon for many of the children that live at the center. As a final holiday project, members of our chapter brought smiles to the faces of many seniors when our volunteers helped deliver roses on Christmas Eve to individuals living at a senior citizen facility. We have quite a full line-up of projects for the rest of the year, including a Valentine’s Day flower fundraiser [VB1] which will enable us to purchase Easter baskets and throw an Easter party for the Family Resource Center. We could not do all of this without the help and support of our wonderful members, you all are shining stars!

Pacific Rim Elementary Volunteer of the month: Amanda Pignone

Amanda Pignone is one of the many budding community leaders that is a part of our 5th Grade Youth Board at Pacific Rim. She is a very responsible and compassionate young lady who has a penchant for organizing activities and trying new things. Amanda is passionate about serving in any way that makes an impact and really enjoys working with the younger kids. Her attitude and desire to serve make her a shining example for our younger chapter members. Keep up the good work Amanda!

Members have hosted Carvel ice cream fundraisers, volunteered at Arbors Senior Center, Lux Art Institute, VIP night at La Casa Center for Autism, and many other local school and agency functions. For the past two Holiday seasons, Ashley has organized a music performance consisting of instrumentalists and singers to bring cheer to the elderly who live at the Arbors.
In December, members travelled to Mexico to serve orphaned children sowing love and hope and making their holiday special this year. Members also had a great experience serving the Helen Woodward Animal Center by helping young kids learn about animals. In the coming month, some members will be serving the homeless and continuing their volunteer time with autistic kids at the VIP Nights at La Casa Center for Autism.
The chapter is truly blessed to be part of Kids Korps USA, which has allowed members to build their confidence to become leaders in the community. Thank you Kids Korps!

With the many hours of community service, he is an example of someone who gives back and has inspired others in the club to become as dedicated as he is. Always present at Westview Teen Korps meetings and officer meetings, he has given input on how to make Westview Teen Korps better and has contributed to the impact Teen Korps has made since it first started.

With your help, we raised over $6,000 for the programs and projects that help to instill in our children the spirit of giving back to our communities and to develop in them the values of caring, giving and compassion for others.

The marathon was both physically challenging and emotionally inspiring for me. It is my hope that through my experience, our children learn the importance of hard work, dedication and achieving attainable goals. But ultimately, we all learn that if we come together as a community to reach a common goal-no matter how big or small- we can take the steps that make a difference in the lives of others each and every day and help make our world a better place!

Thanks again and I look forward to running with you in support of Kids Korps again soon!
