On a windy afternoon at the end of February, seventeen members of the Encinitas Country Day School Kids Korps chapter gathered to get “SmART” about energy conservation. As part of Kid Korps “smART meter” project Presented by SDG&E, these excited and highly energetic students made unique art out of old SDG&E power meters while also learning about the importance of saving energy.

Save the date and join us to celebrate Earth Month at I Love a Clean San Diego’s 6th Annual Creek to Bay Cleanup! There will be approximately 50 clean up sites throughout the county at beach, bay, lagoon, lake, river, and canyon riparian habitats.

I Love A Clean San Diego leads and educates our community to actively conserve and enhance the environment through outreach, community involvement and example.

To learn more about this event, visit www.creektobay.org. To participate, please go to the Kids Korps web site and download the I Love A Clean San Diego attached liability form for this project. Parents must fill this out for their children and themselves and bring these to the event in order to participate.

Kids Korps and the San Diego Audubon Society offer a number of opportunities to help restore sensitive coastal habitats in San Diego Bay, a globally significant bird area. Events are scheduled on select Saturdays from 9am -12pm, in collaboration with the San Diego Oceans Foundation www.sdoceans.org/ and the Port of San Diego www.portofsandiego.org/.

Projects concentrate on the restoration of Emory Cove for our feathered friends by removing invasive plants and debris in preparation for a native planting effort that will take place in the spring.  Volunteers don work clothes, work gloves and a bucket for collecting weeds and debris.   For further information, visit our calendar under environment and email Shannon Dougherty at dougherty@sandiegoaudubon.org.
