San Diego, CA. — Kids Korps USA will bring a taste of British sporting heritage and tradition this year to San Diego through it’s annual Super Star Gala, “A Night at the Royal Ascot” scheduled for Saturday, April 28, 2012 at The Del Mar Country Club. A fundraising event inspired by the elegance, mystique, sporting competition and style of the Royal Ascot; where guests will enjoy trendsetting fashion, the spirit of the races through a unique fundraising challenge, exquisite cuisine and of course, optional but encouraged, for him and her, the ever famous Royal Ascot hats!
The festivities will begin at 6:00 pm. Arriving guests will enter a ‘promenade’ saluting those who serve and are served through Kids Korps year-round service programs. The promenade will treat guests to a sip on champagne and delightful delicacies while enjoying the parade of beautiful fashion and haberdashery; as well as a chance to ‘try their luck’ on the silent auction tables and ‘place their bets’ in a mock betting fund raising activity. This celebratory evening will delight guests through culinary sensations including delicious appetizers, and main course paired with champagnes and wines against the backdrop of an intimate candlelight dinner.
This year’s Gala will recognize the volunteer members, chapter leaders, and wonderful sponsors and partners who made it possible for us to serve more than 1,300 projects and 100,000 recipients in San Diego just this past year. Proceeds from “A Night at the Royal Ascot” will support Kids Korps’ year-round service learning programs that engage young people, ages 5 through 25, in community service. The organization strives to instill in America’s youth the spirit of giving while providing valuable education in leadership and responsibility — developing leaders for life through youth volunteerism.
Tickets for “A Night at the Royal Ascot” range between $350, $450 and $550 each with a 10% discount available for those who purchase before December 31, 2011. Ticket and sponsor seating will be determined by level and date of purchase. Kids Korps USA, America’s leading youth volunteer organization is coordinating a large-scale food drive for local families in partnership with Feeding America San Diego.
WHAT: Feed a Family 2011 Presented by Kids Korps USA
WHY: Food Drive through Participating Starbucks Locations in San Diego County

Local youth volunteers will be available for media interviews at their discretion.
Over a 3 week period between November 19 and December 10, select participating Starbucks will be taking donations of non-perishable food items to help feed local families during the holiday season. Kids Korps and Teen Korps members and their families, as well as Starbucks partners, will later assemble the food items into Holiday Baskets to be distributed to low-income families across San Diego County.
Kids Korps’ Teen Leaders will work with Starbucks and Feeding America San Diego in the planning, coordination and promotion of the program, including working with Starbucks partners and Feeding America San Diego Partner Agencies as liaisons to manage the collection and pick-up of donated food. Teen Korps committee members are planning creative promotion including posters and website updates, in addition to overseeing project advertising, writing articles for local and regional media, photography and editorial. Teen Leaders will also direct volunteers throughout the food drives and packing event.
Food donations will benefit Feeding America San Diego; Feeding America is the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief charity with a mission to “feed America’s hungry through a nationwide network of member food banks and engage our country in the fight to end hunger.”
Kids Korps USA is pleased to partner with these organizations, and welcomes the support that they provide to our programs on such a consistent basis. Kids Korps USA is a national non-profit youth volunteer organization that engages young people (ages 5-25) in service learning, supporting more than 350 non-profits through more than 1,300 projects annually.
